A Buddhist temple discovered at Nateshwar in Tongibari
A Buddhist temple and a stupa have just been discovered at Nateshwar village in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj. Culture Minister Asaduzzaman Noor MP inaugurated the newly discovered Buddhist temple at Nateshwar around 10 am on Friday. Earlier, he toured the Buddhist temple. He was accompanied by President of Agrasar Bikrampur Foundation Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin, Attorney General Advocate Mahabubey Alam, Director of Archaeological Excavation and Research Project in Bikrampur area Prof. Dr. Sufi Mostafizur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner Md. Saiful Hasan Badal and others.
This Buddhist temple was discovered in archeological excavations and research in Munshiganj on the initiative of Agrasar Bikrampur Foundation. Researchers believe that this temple is one to one and a half thousand years old.
Later, in a written statement at a press conference in the area of Nateshwar temple, Minister Asaduzzaman Noor said that after two years of continuous archeological excavations in Nateshwar village, a series of architectural monuments - Buddhist temple measuring 9 meters by 9 meters, octagonal stupa, came out. Drain etc. Although much of the Buddhist temple was damaged, the west-south corner survived at a height of 2.40 meters. Jhama bricks have been used for the foundation of the 1.75 meter wide wall. The magnificent latticework of hand-carved bricks and the work of bricks of different shapes have given the temple a look of remarkable aesthetic architecture.
